Welcome to the Velocette MCC web site.

Brief History:

Originally the Douglas Motor Cycle Club (formed in 1930) it was due to a change in patron that members formed the Velocette Motor Cycle Club in 1938. Mr. Lou Borgelt the Velocette agent becoming patron. A position he held for 40 years.

It was during the war years that the club moved to the fore front by conducting charity events, Speedway at Camden and Scrambles at Sleeps Hill.

In 1945 the Velocette Motor Cycle Club in conjunction with the R.D.A. revived Speedway with the running of Saturday afternoon meetings at Kilburn, with the installation of lights; meetings were transferred to Friday nights.

Many internationals emerged from Kilburn Speedway including the Velocette club's favorite son - Jack Young - Twice world solo speedway champion in 1951/52.

With the demise of Kilburn the club began promoting scrambles at Sleeps Hill, Highbury, Lobethal and many other circuits and later at Clarendon a Moto Cross Track which hosted international riders.

Road racing was conducted at Port Wakefield initially as an individual club and later at Mallala and A.I.R as a member of the A.V.A Road Race Association (formed with other clubs in 1958); and of course the club initiated the Morgan long track meetings.

Also for many years the club conducted the Lou Borgelt Observed Trial and the Colton Road / Reliability Trial and for the past 20 years have run the highly successful Robertstown 2 day road trial.

To name the Velocette Club members who have though the years distinguished themselves and the Velocette Motor Cycle Club in motor cycle competition in winning State, Australian and World Class championships would require a page on its own, suffice to say the Velocette Motor Cycle Club has had its name associated with champions in all disciplines, solo and sidecar, within Australia, plus had its members complete at International speedway and Motocross, the ISDT, Manx Grand Prix and Isle of Man TT.

Members have also been prominent at official levels in the sport as ACC/MA Stewards, others have served as presidents, vice presidents, executives, committee members to the ACU / MA and ACCA / MA delegates

This is a very brief prefits of the first 55 years of the Velocette Motor Cycle Club, join now and become part of the next 55 years.
